For her Fall 2008 collection, the Beat Chick theme Betsey Johnson transported her audience from New York City's Bryant Park to an imaginary location in a dark and smoky joint in the Village, appropriate for beatnik congregations. Never a wallflower, Johnson went all out with her set - smoking bongo drummers, bare lightbulbs, and straw-laden Chianti bottles and copies of On the Road on each table - and of course, with her clothes.
In Johnson's own words: it was "very dark, beatnik, black, bold, slim-lined, and leotardic. It's kick-ass with a harder hard edge, in a Joan Jett kind of way."
Betsey Johnson always has one of the most creative, outrageous shows at Fashion Week - love it!
